Wondering how to tell if the contractor giving you a free estimate is a professional?  Here’s how to tell.

They stock the job in one load.  They do not stock half the job then see how much board is needed to finish it.  A pro usually can figure out what board is needed before anyone starts to even install a single board and agrees that if he over stocks your jobs to charge you for only the sheets that were installed.  Why run the delivary truck twice?  Also, if he does not stock enough board he will do what it takes to complete the job, WITHOUT raising his price.

The contractor orders 8’, 9′, 10′, 12′, 14′, and 16′ (where they are available) long board.  Ordering all 12’s is NOT cheaper and is the old way of hanging a house.  When a Professional knows how to measure a job and orders all size sheets, you will get a better quality job for the same amount of money.  How?  You have fewer joints and seems.

Last but not least.  He uses the best products available.  He knows that using cheap products will only cause problems later down the road.  Most contractors don’t really care because they are long gone by then.  I’m talking about a year or more from when the job was completed.  Some of the most important products are: GLUE, screws, corner bead, and off angle tape.  If the contractor bidding your job does not use glue and screws, GET RID OF THEM!  When it comes to corner bead and tape for off angles (angles that are not 90 degrees) there is only one company that produces a quality product that will last.  No Coat’s Corner Bead and Flex Tape are well worth the money.
